Ageing Child Stars

What book series did you read religiously (over and over again) as tween/teen?  For me it was The Babysitters' Club and Anne of Green Gables (yes, I know very different).

Well, Francine Pascal, the author of the Sweet Valley books has written a new book.
Sweet Valley Confidential
It tells the story of the twins, Elizabeth and Jessica, now in the their twenties, as adults.  The full book won't be out till next year but you can sign up here to read the first chapter online.

Yes, I did it.  I read a few of the Sweet Valley books in high school, so I was familiar with the (never changing) plot and characters... and I was procrastinating.  If you have 10 minutes to fill and remember the books from their/your younger years it may interest you.

Are you going to go catch up with Elizabeth and Jessica?

I am not the Medicine Woman

I don't like taking meds, not because I'm big and tough but because I physically hate sallowing the medication. I can't even take my BC without liquid, and that is 1 tiny pill.  I've finally gotten to the point where I can sallow a standard pain killer (Aleve, Tylenol,etc.) without gagging.  One pill at a time of course.  Anything larger and, like Chester, it has be combined with food.  Don't even get my started on the nasty liquid meds, lets just say that I have spit it all over John's face before.

I'm smart, knowledgeable and been reading Good Housekeeping since I was 12, so I'm fully aware that I should be taking daily vitamins and calcium.  But....  Did you read about my pill issue above?

My mom, the RN, has made numerous suggestions.  I tried Viactiv Chocolate Soft Chews, they were too chewy, grainy and chalky.  I took Caltrate Calcium to boost my calcium, they were way too chalky and powdery.
Caltrate - Calcium Supplement with Vitamin D & Minerals, Chewable Tablets - 60 ea
I was abnormally surprised to spot these gummy vitamins on Kristen's blog last week.   They immediately went on my Target list.

They are terrific!  I got both the vitamins and calcium- and they are tasty!  I am proud to say I have taken both everyday for the past week!

I'm procrastinating........so I took a facebook quiz "which JMUbuilding are you like?"

I am..........

guesses?????

Wilson Hall

You enjoy the traditional campus, bluestones and gorgeous lawn views. You're often the referee of lazy sporting events like frisbee and sun-tanning. You're elegance and grace transcends the generations, as you will be remember by all students.

That is fitting since we got married right in front of that building.

*** not a great photo, but it was on the computer (i.e. easy)

Lightening Up For Spring

I am in the process of getting ready for spring- cleaning, purging, planting, outdoor furniture, etc.  I also decided to lighten up my hair in color and length.

All photos were taken in the car with my camera phone- sorry for the quality.

Before:

I was going for a bit of a mix of these two...

Long Overdue

***I know the format of this post is crappy, but I'm sick of fighting with blogger.

Since I've been a bad blogger (as some people have nicely pointed out), this pictures of Sarah and Darbi's visit are way late.  Thankfully, this isn't a library so there is no fine.  Here is their visit in photos, with a few necessary captions.

First off, there was lots of puppy cuteness- they also enjoyed a trip to the puppy park, and the requisite bath afterwards.

I found a fun, floppy beach hat on our shopping trip. (sorry camera phone)

Tootsie had a great time  with the scanning gun while grocery shopping.  She was very funny.

We had the inaugural lighting of the firepit- with s’mores of course!

Sarah played the Wii.  Perhaps with a bit too much enthusiasm, since John got smacked with the tennis racket.

We attended a firefighter dinner, then had a way better time afterwards at the bar.  I also learned how to drive stick shift that night (the two events are connected....think about it).

Finally, being the crafty girls we are, we turned Crate and Barrel napkins/dishtowel (with a bit of aid from scrap fabric, ribbon and handles) into reversible purses.

No good reason

Yes, I know I’ve been a bad blogger (thanks for the reminder elf).  I don’t have a good reason.  I have 4 or 5 lined up in my mind, with photos on the camera.  I’ve just been too lazy to upload photos.  To get me back in the swing, my goal is 3 posts by Sun.  Fingers crossed!

Planners Galore! (dorky I know)

One of my favorite bloggers (G&D) is all about organization (and purses, wine, etc)....anyway a while back she asked for reader requests. It was right around the time I was getting ready for school to start- supply shopping, starting to plan, and my never ending quest for the perfect planner. I loves planners- and have yet to find the perfect one for me (although I do have many specifications) . To make this super dorky long story shorter- that was my reader request to G&D- tell me about your planner preference. She responded that she didn't have any amazing ideas yet, but would think about it.

I ended up designing a notebook on shutterfly to as a planner this year. I've devoted one page to each day and broken it up to fit my needs.

THEN.....

Thursday afternoon I got this email:
"Hi! I apologize for not blogging about planner ideas, but I want you to know I haven't forgotten about you--I just don't have any good ideas yet. =( But my friend Emily recently blogged about planners and some readers replied with their ideas. I thought you might be interested. Here's the link--enjoy! http://mckevitts.blogspot.com/2008/10/imperfectly-organized.html
-G&D"

It sounds like Emily and I share a love of planners! Always looking for something better, and new to try. And there are many other planner addicted people out there too, just like me- phew! what a relief! I'm not alone ;)

The post and replies led me to this: http://www.weekdate.com/weekly_planner.htm

I'm looking forward to trying it out in 2009! Thanks for your suggestions ladies!

Yes- I'm aware of how much of a dork I sound like. :)

Pathetic

I know I'm too old to be sad but...I miss Tuesday night Gilmore Girls (and dinner with Lauren).
