Ikea Argument

As a twenty-something who likes to decorate, it is fair to assume that I appreciate Ikea .  Also, as a DC-area resident I'm lucky enough to live within twenty miles of two Ikeas (I know Emily is jealous right now). John is more or less accepted the situation. (except for when our Hemnes bed collapsed, but that is a story for another post.)
But when I brought this home after my last Ikea run, he was less than impressed.

I still love it, he just tosses junk it.  What do you think?

2 IKEAS within 20 miles? Oh honey, we're officially in a fight :). Love the bowl - boys don't understand statement pieces and as a result I don't give them veto power - especially on something inexpensive.

Boys don't understand decorating in general. My husband can't understand why I hung pretty plates on the wall...It's cute, keep it no matter what he says!

I like the bowl. And, I wish I had a closer IKEA> It's not as far away as it is for Emily, but still several hours. =)

I saw that bowl when I went to Ikea on Valentines Day. I liked it and thought it would look good with the right decory stuff in it..

The statement this bowl is making is "Hey, store junk mail in me", "I will always be in the way when you sit down in front of the TV", and "You will forget you own me and leave me in a pile of junk when you move me".

I agree with both parties on this one - the bowl is really pretty and is a perfect "catch all" for mail etc. It looks great and it's functional - win, win, no?

My husband is pretty similar to John. In fact, I bought a glass bowl/plate from Michael's on the cheap a year or so ago and when I brought it home he didn't *get* it. But he also has strong design opinions about the house, which can make things very frustrating! It took us forever to buy lamps for our family room because we couldn't find anything that we agreed on!

I love it :) And I'm sure you can find something much more interesting than junk mail to put in it...not that it even has to have anything in it. You'll have more surfaces to put stuff on in your new house anyway. So it will come in handy!
