I dislike both my kitchen counters and dish-racks.
Dish-racks are cumbersome and ugly; and while useful for holding and drying wet dishes,I'm too lazy to pull it out each time. So most of the time, I just put the dishes on the counter and let the puddles form.
My counter tops have a horrible brown pattern, that I'm happy to cover.
Then I saw the dishmats that Laurel made, not only are they great for drying dishes but they let me display some fabrics I love (but have nothing else to do with) and hide my yucky counters!
I followed these directions to the letter. It was very easy, and it would be a snap to do many variations.
How do your dishes dry?

Ugh, just wrote a long comment and it didn't post. So the short version is I love it, have a love/hate relationship with google's word verification :).
We have a drying rack that stays out, but I have a love/hate relationship with it! Those are definitely cute!
Ps. Go over and enter my giveaway before it's too late :-)
I lay out microfiber cloths and let them air dry on there. We don't have space for a drying rack :(
I love these. And, I totally tried to make one as a variation and it turned out HORRIBLE. I tried to use quilt binding and it just bunched up and ick. I should just follow the directions.
What a neat idea! If only I sewed.. then I could make all your and Kim's great ideas! We do have a dish rack.. a necessary evil.
P.S. I want more house pictures! :)
I hate the drying rack, so I'm a towel on the counter kinda gal. But my towels are ugly. I need to make something like this too!
these look great!! i agree ... i'm not into the dish drying rack but i always have a cute dish towel ready for wet dishes. it makes doing dishes so much more fun! and i'll honestly say, i have way too many dish towels, but i love their colorfulness and spunk they add to my kitchen!
Where are you? I keep visiting... just thought you should know. =)
